In April 2006, CDm2 LIGHTWORKS opened its doors in Vancouver. Twenty years later, the agency marks its anniversary by turning the celebration outward toward the clients, manufacturer partners, and industry colleagues whose projects, trust, and challenges have shaped CDm2 into the company it is today.
“We’re appreciative of the opportunities we’ve had, and of how everybody has challenged us with their projects and helped us grow,” says Darren Luce, President of CDm2. “What we’re most excited about is continuing to build a legacy alongside our clients and partners.”
That client-shaped evolution has been a defining feature of CDm2’s twenty years. The firm was founded to bring stronger support to the design process, from specification through realization, at a time when solid-state and digital lighting were just emerging. What it has become since has been led, in large part, by the clients who brought their creativity and visions to the table.
“Our architectural clients gave us feedback early on that they wanted more out of their relationship with us. That’s how we moved further into full building solutions. Darren says. “Much of our growth has come from listening to the people we work with.”
That appreciation extends to the manufacturers CDm2 represents. Over two decades, the firm has built a curated portfolio of more than 50 manufacturers across lighting, controls, and smart building technology. Design quality, application fit, and long-term partnership have guided every decision to add a line.
Looking ahead, Darren sees the next chapter shaped by the same forces that shaped the last. New technologies such as DC-to-DC power, evolving controls platforms, and new procurement models like project alliances, all of which will continue to change how our solutions are realized. The constant will be the client and partner relationships that make the work possible.
The CDm2 Team looks forward to celebrating our anniversary with the clients, manufacturer partners, and industry colleagues who have shaped its first two decades.
